A US House of Representatives subcommittee has removed portions of a bill which would increase penalties for pirated songs from $30,000 per album to $30,000 per track. In it's previous form the bill would have increased the maximum fine to $1,500,000 for an illegally obtained album. A million and a half fucking bucks. Thank god the house thought better of it.
It seems this was in large part due to the benevolence of subcommittee chairman Howard Berman (D) California.

Dude's probably a illegal sample enthusiast.
In it's present form the Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property Act would still establish an Office of U.S. Intellectual Property Enforcement Representative at the Federal level, and would create an intellectual-property division in the U.S. Department of Justice. Fucking Bummer.
