Santogold Remix + XXXChange + The Kills

For those of you who have been sleeping on it (and from the people I've been talking to, it's the majority of you) Brooklyn's Santogold is this year's M.I.A. Her first single "Creator" was released a week or two ago and is worth every penny (so go out and buy it stupid, that way you look like you're on the cutting edge of music). Her debut LP is soon to be released on Downtown Records and will feature a slew of indie-club/tronic/rap/dance guests (Diplo, XXXchange, Switch, M.I.A., Spank Rock and Pase Rock) getting production credit and lending other musical talents to the sure-to-be top 10 album of the year. That being said XXXchange released the first (in what I'm sure there will soon be a myriad) remix of "L.E.S. Artistes", it made its debut on Eli's East Village Radio a week or so ago. Needless to say it's XXXchange, so it's fucking solid. I'm sure after this you'll be drooling for more, so hold tight the rest is coming.

Speaking of XXXchange, the man is busy (as fuck, if you listen to EVR #69 you'll find that out pretty quick). He's taken on countless projects since the unpredicted success of Spank Rock's debut album YoYoYoYoYoYo. Not only is he releasing an LP with fellow Spank Rocker DJs Devlin (watch him fuck up Fall Out Boy's award acceptance speech) & Darko under their label Fully Fitted, but he's been working on getting some interesting production credit in as well:

This last year XXXchange teamed up with UK duo The Kills to produce their new album Midnight Boom, which has a release date of March 17th (you can currently stream songs from either of their websites linked above). Midnight Boom will be XXXchange's first rock production credit, thus he is emerging as an all-around producer that proves he has the capability and talent to move from genre to genre making great music. I don't have to tell you that he is one of my favorite people in the music world right now and somewhat of an idol, but I just did anyways.

VÍVA EL GUINCHO!

Hola, no se Espanol mucho. So I'll just tell you about Barcelona artist El Guincho in English. Now my high school Spanish only goes as far as ordering tacos and a cerveza followed by asking where the bathroom is (thanks public school system), so I'm not quite sure what Guincho means in Spanish; thankfully my tenure in high school Spanish did teach me that "El" translates to "The." Here is my guess at what Guincho means:

Guincho - Spanish (noun): A one-man band consisting of Pablo Diaz-Reixa using a SP-404, a drum machine and several effects pedals while screaming into microphones. Known for his sanguine melodies and flamenco-inspired loops, he is rumored to have audiences in fiesta-like frenzies. Album Alegranza! just released.

Just a random shout about what I've been listening to for the past twenty minutes. A duo out of the hellhole known as LA called No Age have been destroying venues lately (I guess, just a rumor). Anyways, they're filling up the garage-noise portion of my iPod rotation. Currently they're touring with Liars and their LP Weirdo Rippers just came out. Here's some videos of theirs I wanted to share before I pass out. Enjoy the sleeping music.

Live Missoula Music 2/22-2/23

Perhaps one of the greatest things about Missoula is the live music scene that spans almost too many genres to list, all with reasonable access and affordability. That being said, this is this site's first look at what is going on in Missoula this coming weekend:

Friday:

Reverend Slanky will be funking the hell out of the Badlander Fri 2/22. Show starts at 9, save up $5 bucks for the door and only show up if you're 21.
Local Missoula singer songwriter David Boone will be playing Shadows Keep Fri 2/22 at 6:30. Dinner and a show, there you go.
The featured show of the week will certainly be something to look forward to: Good Neighbor Policy is releasing their debut album Kill...the Good Neighbor Policy which I was fortunate enough to get a pre-mastered preview of this summer when I was wandering around the impressive Habbilis Records complex (also the label which is releasing the album). They're playing their release show Fri 2/22 at the Red Light Green Room beneath the Wilma Theater. Show starts at 9:00, costs only $5 and is 18+ (hooray kids!). Joining them will be Wolf Redboy, Black Velvet Elvis and The Wartime Blues. Not to be missed!
As always, the Palace will be hosting the Friday Funk blaster (occasionally featuring your's truly). The line-up usually isn't known until 4pm Friday afternoon, strike usually and add always. Free, starts at 9pm.

Saturday:

The Palace will be hosting CUE with Colin Hickey and Ben Utah. These guys opened for me last week and throw down an extensive catalog of music, playing tag-team all night. Try to notice their genre battles. Free, starts at 9pm.
Sweatshop Union will organize and stand up against oppressive working conditions by doing their underground hip-hop protest at the Loft. Doors open at 10pm, $8 and 18+.

There you have it, something for you to do this weekend rather than sit at home working through that case of Bud Light you bought for whatever NASCAR event is going on this weekend.

I'm not sure what shows (if any) I will be covering this weekend, but the plan is to cover a few a week. And of course I can't do it all by myself so I've commissioned a few folks to give me a hand, more on them soon.

Holy Shit!, Holy Ghost!

DFA records never ceases to amaze me with the arsenal of artists they carry around in their quiver. Newly signed duo Holy Ghost! hail from Brooklyn (New fuckinYork!) and while I haven't heard a definitive word on when their first LP will be released, it's holding electronic listeners in sheer anticipation. Their first single "Hold On" has found its way into my rotation both personally and in live sets for its extremely catchy vocal hooks and its 80s-synth melodic progression. HG! are releasing remixes left and right as well. Vice records recently handed over the original tracks from the Panthers' "Goblin City" to allow the Holy Ghost! to edit and effect the shit out of it into one hell of an epic remix. How epic? Let's just say it's nine minutes of eighties-movie montage bliss with an intro that makes it hard not burst out into flash dance-like moves (or maybe this is more like what I mean). Keep an ear open for both these groups, Holy Ghost! is certain to get plenty of time in at various music festivals this summer.

For those of you who don't already know, I kind of have a thing for lo-fi garage rock. Even more so I have an affinity for dance-electronic and disco rap. Right now it's time to relate all of these genres.

The Seeds are credited with being the first garage-punk band and were prescribed the style of "flower punk." In several interviews throughout the years, the Black Lips have credited them having a large influence on their music. The obvious connections lay with The Seeds' Sky Saxon's lead vocals and Cole Alexander's of the Black Lips. Both bands are also known for their twangy, simplistic surfer rock guitar riffs.

That being said, Mad Decent founder Diplo is connected to both groups in a different way. Years ago Diplo remixed fellow Philly group Spank Rock's "Put that Pussy on Me" using several tweaked and filtered loops from The Seeds' "Can't Seem to Make You Mine". Coincidentally, Diplo was responsible for the first remix of the Black Lips' "Veni, Vidi, Veci" that was linked in the last post. I found this to be somewhat interesting, listen for yourselves.

Audio Blasphemy: the heretic of the music world!

So I have unexpectedly run into some extra time this academic semester, and accordingly decided to stop posting shit on Facebook and instead move my musical discovery to a more suitable place: blogspot (yea like everyone else.)

Here it is everyone the first post of Audio Blasphemy. I intend for this blog to bring you a variety of music from several genres in the form of news, recommendations, posts, events in my local community, etc. As well I will be providing you with mixes, remixes, live sets, original works under my DJ and production aliases Erol-E and Strangelove.

There you have it folks, my newest hobby. Give me time to get things figured out and remember to snag the tracks I post before I get threatened by big name record labels. In the mean time here's two remixes for today:

If you think you've had just about enough of M.I.A.'s most popular track this year (perhaps one of the most popular period), check out DFA's remix (not sure which DFA artist but I would guess that it's Hercules) it will make it feel brand new again; it's to be featured on a Paper Planes EP that's due out soon.

Black Lips' "Veni Vedi Veci" is perhaps their most popular track off of last year's Good Bad, Not Evil, although arguably not the best from their most recent title. A few months back Vice (www.viceland.com) commissioned Mad Decent remix genius Diplo to put a spin on the Atlanta quartet's first single from the album. Anyways here's a rework on that remix containing some more aggressive percussion and a little dancehall vibe.
